PAPA ROACH Frontman: 'We've Always Been That Band That's Pushed Ourselves'
May 29, 2018PAPA ROACH frontman Jacoby Shaddix was recent interviewed by 105.1 FM The Blaze's "The Morning Blaze". You can now listen to the chat using the SoundCloud widget below.
Speaking about how PAPA ROACH has adapted to all the changes that have taken place in the music industry, Jacoby said: "From the business industry side, we definitely came in at the end of the big-CD-sales era, the end of the big-record-deal era, and we're very grateful that we were able to be part of that and celebrate that. And we've seen it evolve, with streaming as kind of the next major evolution in music. And it's proved to be very successful for us. Our streaming numbers are really high. We've got close to seven million monthly listeners on Spotify, so it's cracking off right there."
He continued: "But as far as stylistically and our [musical] evolution, it's just something that's just been so natural for us over the course of our career. We've always just kind of been that band that's pushed ourselves, and it's a reflection of our lives, it's a reflection of the music that we listen to, it's a reflection of what we want to do, where we wanna take our fans. And sometimes we win and sometimes we lose with that motto, but for us, we're just like… I can't just do the same thing over and over. Honestly, that's why I haven't started a side project, 'cause I can scratch every itch I want to in P. ROACH… We just feel really comfortable where we've been able to take our music and it's, like, to spend a whole another time to try to make something crack off, I'm just, like, 'Eh.' I'll focus on P. ROACH, man. It's my passion; it's all of our passion."
PAPA ROACH is continuing to tour in support of its latest album, "Crooked Teeth", which was released in May 2017 via Eleven Seven Music. The disc was written and recorded in a cramped North Hollywood studio with producers Nicholas "RAS" Furlong and Colin Brittain, with the exception of "Born For Greatness", which saw the band collaborate with writer/producer Jason Evigan (Jason Derulo, Demi Lovato, Zedd, MAROON 5).
